Saint Bernard in the snow by Charles VALTON (1851-1918)

Sculpture in bronze with a medal patina, representing a Saint Bernard dog in the snow looking for people lost in the mountains. The massive appearance, a dense and abundant hair, he carries around his neck a barrel of Whisky which is intended to invigorate the victims of the cold. He seems to detect a human presence, a bag placed in the snow makes him stop. Old cast iron of the end of the XIXth century, signed Ch.Valton and marked " Beaux arts ".
Sculpture " Chien Saint-Bernard " exposed at the Salon of 1898.
