An Algerian onyx-marble and gilt bronze bowl in the Greek Revival style
850,00€An Algerian onyx marble bowl on a pedestal with two handles and an ormolu frame, decorated with antique motifs with a base with claw feet. This bowl is remarkable for several reasons. It is first of all a magnificent object of the production of art bronzes of which Paris was the undisputed capital in the second half of the 19th century. The exceptional quality of the mercury gilding on this piece should be noted. This cup is a characteristic example of the production of this union of art and industry so sought after at that time.
HISTORY
During the Second Empire, this style, which was described as neo-Greek, neo-Pompeian or even Estruco-Greek, was mainly used in the field of porcelain and metal arts, particularly in furniture bronzes. -
